Advanced Material Technology Behind Grafy Aligners

Discover the science behind Grafy’s 3D-printed, shape memory aligners—designed for precision, comfort, and performance. From direct digital printing to biocompatible materials, every element is engineered for superior clinical outcomes.

A) 3D-Printed Technology

Unlike conventional aligners, Grafy aligners are made from a research-based material that can be 3D printed. Traditional aligners are thermoformed and vacuum-pressed, whereas Grafy aligners are printed directly.

Advantages:
1. Precise Fit – No gap between the tooth and the aligner.
2. Adaptability to Undercuts – Enhanced force application due to better adaptation.
3. Environmentally Friendly – No need for physical models, reducing plastic waste.
4. Customizable thickness – aligner thickness can be adjusted during design to suit specific treatment needs, enhancing efficiency and results.

B) Shape Memory Material

Grafy uses TC-85DC, a photocurable resin with shape memory properties. This material retains its designed shape at 30–40°C or within body temperature.

Advantages:
1. Improved Adaptability – Better fit around undercuts and more accurate force application near the center of rotation, resulting in more effective tooth movement.
2. Comfort – Less rigid, more elastic, providing greater comfort for patients.
3. Heat Resistance – Can withstand high temperatures and be sterilized in hot water.
4. Biocompatibility – Fully cured material with no free radicals or uncured oligomers, resulting in greater stability and minimal tissue reaction.

C) Direct 3D Printing

Grafy aligners are directly 3D printed from the digital design, eliminating the need for physical models.

Advantages:
1. Precise Design – The aligner design matches the scan file exactly, eliminating gaps and trapped air commonly seen in thermoformed aligners, ensuring a more accurate, secure fit.
2. Customizable Trim Line – Trim line can be designed and modified as needed; easily detachable from print supports, saving production time.
3. Incorporation of Attachments – Functional elements such as bite blocks, TPAs, hooks, and pressure spots can be directly integrated into the aligner.

D) No Attachments Required

Grafy aligners do not require attachments, making them more aesthetic and easier to use.

Advantages:
1. Attachment-Free – Unlike thermoformed aligners, Grafy aligners require no attachments.
2. Enhanced Aesthetics – Improved patient acceptance due to the clear, smooth design.
3. Time-Saving for Clinicians – No bonding of attachments, reducing chairside time.
4. Easy to Use – Simple insertion and removal improve patient compliance.
